Through its collaboration with Project Canción Española, the TCU School of Music offers the 2009 edition of the Institute of Art Song in Spanish, the first of its kind to promote the art song in Spanish as a standard element of the art song genre.     Come join us in Fort Worth where the west begins!

This year's week-long course will include daily master classes and coaching with Jorge Robaina, a master of the repertoire, along with basic courses in Flamenco rhythm and movement.  As in the previous two Institutes, the flamenco faculty, Juan Miguel Jimenez and Antonio Vallejo - direct from the historical Albaicin of Granada - will share their art with institute participants.  Additional coaching and classes in voice, poetry, and diction will be offered by TCU professor Sheila Allen and BYU professor and expert in Spanish repertoire, Arden Hopkin.  Of special interest to guitarists will be the workshops or individual instruction in flamenco guitar.  A Flamenco workshop for dancers is also offered.

All participants in the TCU Summer Institute of Art Song in Spanish are eligible to participate in the Project Canción Española competition, the prize of which is a concert during the VII edition of the Project Canción Española Granada Festival, Interpretation of Spanish Song, 2010 (http://www.projectcancionespanola.com). The award includes: one round trip flight to Granada, lodging for the duration of the Granada festival, participation in the festival courses, and one performance with a selected pianist, and possibly guitarist (depending on repertoire), with whom the winner will prepare during the Granada event.  See details and required repertoire on the competition page.
